The Officers House

Outside The Officers House

When we bought the house the outside was a terrifying mess, over grown from years of neglect and riddled with brambles and self seeded weeds and shrubs of every description.

With the help of a fantastic local garden designer we set about creating a seaside garden that was not only in keeping with the location but would require little if any watering. Planted only a year ago the garden is still in its infancy but already overwhelming us with it’s natural beauty. A mixture of shingle, decking and paving stones lets you meander

around the planting. To the side and the rear of the house is an enclosed and secluded private garden with teak seating and dinning table alongside a BBQ area. This is a particularly magical place to spend an evening, looking up into the enormous star filled skies, helped by the lack of street lighting in the village.

To the front and alongside the small private drive lies a much larger planting area that helps separate the house from the surrounding square. Sunken into this bed lies a small paved area with garden bench surrounded by tall grasses, aliums and interesting shrubs that we hope one day will become a natural oasis in the warm summer sun – the perfect place to take a mug of tea after a long walk on the beach.
