Custom built cabinetry hides modern hi-fi (with iPod connection) and speakers that sit comfortably alongside antiques we have sourced from markets and auctions in Rye and from as far afield as France. We particularly like the zinc topped dining table that looks like it was made for the space (it wasn’t) where we have comfortably sat 10 way into the small hours. Remarkably, even though we are so close to the sea, all the original sash windows were in perfect order under their years of paint and sit proudly as eyes to the world in their uniquely shaped openings. All the natural fabric curtains are double lined to really block out the morning sun, hanging from custom built cast iron rails that are painted to match the wall colour.


Upstairs the attention to detail doesn’t stop. A simple neutral carpet thoughout, it’s nicer under bare feet, four very generous sized bedrooms with 2 gleaming white bathrooms, both with seriously powerful showers (the family bathroom has a bath also), marble vanity tops, heated chrome towel rails holding fluffy white towels and heated tiles under foot. The beds have handmade padded headboards, and properly comfortable mattresses with Egyptian white linen sheets, feather and down pillows and duvets.
